Michelle Wreck near Veli Rat/ Croatia
The Michelle ran aground in 1983 on a shallow reef in just 5–6 metres of water, close to the Veli Rat Lighthouse on Dugi Otok. The vessel was carrying fertiliser — fortunately, no one was injured.
Over the years, various stories and rumours have emerged (including the suggestion that the grounding may have been staged for insurance). Whatever the truth, one thing is certain: today, the Michelle is a memorable attraction for sailors cruising this part of the Adriatic.
Thanks to the shallow depth and clear water, it’s an ideal stop for:
a quick swim
snorkelling
an unforgettable break on your route
